Multilingual WebApp: subdomain vs JSON vs SQL

Doing a multilingual website can be made by several approaches. Now I Ask my self which is the best way for a WebApp, which should also work offline and sometime reactive.

So JSON looks like the best solution doing this, are there any misgivings using JSON instead of SQL or even a subdomain (which also comes with some benfeits but is detrimental in maintenance).
