Material Design Lite use link layout with fixed header to change page content

I'm using 'Material Design Lite' from getmdl.io and trying to get a menu with fixed header working. The components are listed here: http://ift.tt/1fwNsvW

I want to change the content in 'class="mdl-layout__content"' to the currently selected menu item. They provided the code for changing the page content if you use Tabs but the code for changing the content while using a menu is missing.
