Which programming language would be the most efficient to create a website displaying all stocks?

Having only learned Java so far and using Netbeans to execute programs, I intend to create a website in which all stocks can be listed and updated regularly. From some small research, I believe that an API should be able to help with this, but what programming language and application would be the most efficient to develop this sort of website? Would databases such as MySQL be applicable? So far research has indicated that using PHPMyAdmin and integrating it with a stock API could potentially work, but are what other options do I have?
