Can a website on subdomain be shifted as an independent new website of a new domain, for eg: example.com?

I have a query that if we have a website on a subdomain for eg: subdomain.site1.com, and we want to now have that website on as an independent website on a new domain, for eg: site2.com, can this be done? and how? what are the pros and cons?
