Extending .net Identity Framework authorization to a Rest API

Can anyone provide direction on how to add a Rest API to an existing Azure .net website as an alternative to receive secure orders? We already have good U&P authentication via .Net Identity Framework over SSL to protect the payload. It would seem we could pass the U&P with the request and so there should be no need for tokens and I’m not sure if there is a need for JWT.
