Is it possible to display different content to users depending on the device they are using?

I have a webpage and i would like to show a table for users that are using a mobile device and a different table for users that are using laptops/desktops and none phone type devices.

I think i may need to check the users user-agent and display content depending on the result however i assume all different mobile phones will have a different user agent, so may need a catch-all, can you provide an example of how this can be acheived?
