Flow of when a website is loaded from Browser

I recently had an interview and the interviewer had asked me the following:

"You have a UI, a server, and a database. Your website only shows a table of the data. What happens as soon as the browser tries to get load the website?"

I sort of blanked out and was wondering what would be a good answer to this question? I answered saying how the Server would retrieve the data from the database and load it up to the UI with a socket, but he seemed unsatisfied with that answer. Could someone give me some advice please? Thank you!
