How Browser Recording works

Smartlook and Jaco can be installed by a website owner to visually record visitor activity. They show clicks, keystrokes, etc., on a video player.

Smartlook uses websockets, but the frames appear to be very small. How do these tools work with such little network traffic? am just curious to know what data travels over network like do they send html code, or canvas image or what??
