How to check status of cash drawer using java

I am developing a web-based POS application. Before every new transaction, I need to know if the cash drawer connected to the systems is opened or closed, for printing I am using google cloud printing API and for the scanner I am using a locally deployed jar file. I have looked into javaPOS but it is of no help for checking the status of the cash drawer.
