How to Show that the user is logged in using NodeJS

I’m trying to create a pure nodejs login server, but I ean into a problem. I want to show that the user is logged in, I want to show that the user is logged in even if they go to a different page on my website. The other difficulty is that I dont want to use Passport.js. Is there a way I can achieve this?
