how to create an "upvote" button on website that updates database using node.js

I am wondering how I would get the html page to run a node.js code to update the database (and in turn update the webpage to show the updated number) but without someone using the sources tab in chrome (after pressing f12) actually seeing the code and whatnot. what would be the best course of action to make this happen?
