Web-based Bio-metric attendance System

I know this question will later be flagged or removed but here goes.

I want to create a web-based attendance system together with a biometric device. I am planning to do it in PHP. I had a scan on SO about the topic but the references are not in PHP.

First I need to find the perfect biometric device to be used. I want to be able to communicate with this device using PHP. Like whenever there is a fingerprint scanned, it will automatically be placed in the database. I don't know but is this even possible?

I hope some can help before this question is removed.
