State of the art way to create a Windows service reacting on network requests in C#

I have to develop a windows service that is reacting on input from a remote computer. On my research I found WCF and ASP.Net. First one is deprecated and second is, in my opinion, to fat for my need, because I don't need to develop/host websites or have support for https. A lightweight REST framework would be fine, but I didn't find something like that.

So, what is the state of the art way in 2021 to realise this in C#?
