Is jQuery still relevant?

Recently I have read a lot of captions like: "jQuery isn't relevant", "jQuery is outdated", "I think jQuery is dying out", "…forget about jQuery. It isn't good for anything anymore".

I'm also aware of the fact that github have removed jQuery as a dependency from their frontend.

Is jQuery really redundant? Has javascript evolved so much to overcome the necessities of using the library? Could you provide me any cases where jQuery is irreplaceable, or just the best to use.
