Identify download in HTTP request/response

The application I build should identify client's file-download requests and scan those files before it reaches the client. In order to do so, I need to separate the wheat from the chaff. In other words, is there any way to distinguish HTTP requests\responses that involves file-download from other HTTP requests\responses.
