General Backend Developer Information Needed

I apologize if this is not the place to ask this question, but I needed a fast answer from individuals that do website development.

I am creating a website (both front and backend) that deals with mortgage. The website will collect sensitive information such as a person's phone number and SSN, and I wanted to know if I would be liable if any of this information was to be stolen. The website will be hosted on GoDaddy. We're using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JS (maybe PHP as well) to build this site, but before I get myself in too deep, I wanted to know of any consequences that might occur.
