Recommendations for colored ordered lists in HTML emails (bullets different than list items)

I am writing an HTML email and I have considered a few options. The ordered list has green bullets but black text. I have considered:

  1. Creating two columns, one smaller column to house the green bullets, and the other the line items. The issue with this is inevitably when tested on all email clients one client distorts where the items appear and thus, they do not line up.

other option

  1. Using images of green dots and placing them next to the line items. I have tried to use list-style-type and list-style-image but they both are not recognized across all email clients. I have also attempted to put them in a separate column.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to the best way to achieve this, but also achieve uniformity across mail clients? It seems accomplishing uniformity across email clients is nearly impossible.

p.s. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY IN OUTLOOK 2010 it responds to PADDING and in 2013 it responds to margin!? God!!!
