Why do developers want to 'hide the fact they are using PHP'?

According to Learning PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, CSS and HTML (O'Reilly 2013), the author suggests:

...web servers are highly configurable, and some web developers choose to force files ending with .htm or .html to also get parsed by the PHP processor, usually because they want to hide the fact that they are using PHP.

With no explanation as to why, I am wondering why this is the case?
