Project manager application written by students. Node.js or JavaEE

We have a to create simple web application that keep track of how many hours a person spends on projects. However as computer science students we have no idea how to start.

We have a choice between Node.js or JavaEE server side. AngularJS is another technology being used.

Where would a good place be to start?
