How can a site redirect from a seized domain?

Thepiratebay.se got its .se domain seized yesterday, but when you go there now it redirects to thepiratebay.la. This is how it has always worked whenever one of their domains is lost; it starts redirecting to their new one.

How does this work? If the domain is seized, shouldn't they no longer have any power over what happens at that URL? Shouldn't it be a server error or something, Page not found, Webpage unavailable, something like that? How are they still able to redirect?
