Creating a drop-down menu when hovering over an image?

I have created a custom navigation header for my website and am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for turning these spliced 'images' into hover-able dropdowns?

I've been able to and found many tutorials on how to do it with plain text, but am wanting to do it with my custom created images. The method needs to be compatible for all most recent browser types.

So to summarize, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction in terms of coding my own drop-down menu, from an image.
