Web development Login and then return to my original browsing status

I am developing a online selling website that supports user login, and purchase and other user specific function. My problem is, after user login, their previous browser information is not presented to the user any more. For example one user is browsing and choosing from many handbags on my website, and they choose some ideal handbags, then they login and wish to buy those chosen handbags, but after login those information lost on my web site, I am wondering if there is a way to make the user return to the original browsing (chosen hand bags) after login? I think I need to write into cookies and then read it, but don't know how to implement that in java/jsp/javascript.
