Resize uploading images

Original image 400px thumbnail 200px thumbnail

I build a system where, when a user upload an image, it'll first create a 400px thumbnail and then a 200px thumbnail and save the URLs to database. This process works just fine, but takes a lot of time to complete the whole process. I'm wondering if there's a better solution to this process.
