Why doesn't ACID transactions make sense in web applications

I was reading this article about REST and SOAP differences. http://ift.tt/1dVGUUY In the article author said: "Fortunately ACID transactions almost never make sense over the internet". But I didn't find why is that. Why doesn't ACID make sense over the Internet?
