Running a linux desktop application from a webpage [on hold]

I'm looking to be able to run a linux application (small app that looks at a database and returns some counts from it) on the website hosted by the same machine. I have asked google but i have not been able to get a clear answer, some answers are very complicated and i think the user is not trying to do what i want to do. Summarizing, i have an application on the linux desktop. When i'm outside the office i want to go in my website and open a page that will run the application. What will be the easiest way to accomplish that?
