Can't rewrite a folder with .htaccess

I have moved hoster lately, but I have made a slight change in the directory. I renamed a folder from listing to vendors. I used this code below to prevent a 404 error.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^listing/(.*) vendors/$1

This didn't worked for me.. Can someone out there please help me out or give me a hint to fix this problem
