Why Internet Explore always taken into account?

It is just a question of interest.

I mean, WEB progressed this much and there must be few, very few people who choose to use IE instead of giants like, Firefox or Chrome, etc.

Why? Why so much talks about IE compatibility? Is it fast? Safe? Secure? what?
