React: Are class based components obsolete? [closed]

I am learning React from Maximilian Schwarzmuller's Udemy course. For the majority of the course, he has used class based components. But, some of my seniors say that class based components are now obsolete and instead we should use functional components and hooks. Can anyone put some light on it?

Also, can anyone tell me how to effectively learn from the course?
