What is the real difference between a class and an id in HTML? [duplicate]

I studied that in Web Dev class is used to style multiple elements while id is used to style only one element while when I assign same id to multiple elements all those elements were styled.

So what is the real use of id when we can use class for the same work ?

Does id have any significance ?
