Animated GIF and browser freeze

I'm developing a web application for displaying data only. My client has a request if the browser freeze (whatever reason) the user who's watching a web page can be visually notified that the freeze happened. I was thinking about the animated gif but don't know if it will also stopped during browser freeze. Please help me. Thank you.
