Upload file to apache server first time

Hi ıam taking web service lectures. We bought server from digitalocean(which is cheapest 5$) we got ıp adress and password. I download putty for windows and ı connected my server a moment ago ( ı did root entry and ı changed current long passs to normal one ) I made my html file for website and now ı have 2 main question. Hope that ıam not bothering you. 1-)should ı create new user instead root user? can ı add file on root user 2-)how can ı push my html files to the server? ı only know how to push github repository. Also i looked my server inside there is only one file htdocs which we created in class.
