Can i connect a seperate ftp server to my website?

i have a website but i don't have enough space with my web-hosting service so i thought, maybe i can connect an ftp to it. Is this possible? Or do i have to pay for a better web-hosting service with higher disk space? I have tried looking it up on google but can't find anything about it.
