What is the best language to learn for a mobile app that integrates with an online database

I am new to programming, and recently started the CS path at CodeAcademy.

The project I have in mind is a mobile app that feeds information to an online database (Salesforce.Com) in a novel way.

Different sites have different recommended languages, and right now I am leaning towards Javascript, as it appears to have applicability both for web apps and mobile apps.

Is this the correct learning path to pursue, or should I be taking another route. Will certainly update the post if more details are required to provide direction.
