I saw an interesting article (archive) regarding building a live chat service that's JavaScript free. It got me to thinking about how one would build such a service now vs 5 years ago, when this article was written.
I thought that perhaps Server-Sent Events would be the way to go, and then a friend chimed in and said that even that requires JavaScript to work.
What would be the most optimal (or refined) solution to such a scenario today that requires some semblance of dynamism like live chat and yet needs to be free of JS?
Does this article still hold relevancy today in what the author suggests?
