Is it a bad idea to offer web development services under the same domain as a software portfolio website?

I am a software development student and have recently decided to work on a website where I will offer web development services, I wish to make some cash while at college whilst also establishing a brand for myself and products/services I wish to sell.

I am considering adding a section on this website for software downloads. The software section will be something like a portfolio with some apps I've been developing over the last few years free for download. The plan is to eventually expand this website in the future and offer both (web and software) services but I believe software engineering is a little more complicated and time consuming so I will only offer my own software and not actually take on any software orders.

I am wondering whether mixing the two under the same domain right now is a bad idea, will it confuse the users? Or is it ok to have both things on the same domain since there will be software there for download and since I plan on expanding it in the future? I have also considered using sub domains. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
