API for Web Analysis

I'm looking for a good API that could help me get information on/analysis the popularity of a certain online product or trends. Iv'e considered products that look specifically at one medium like Twitter but a service that looks at the web as a whole would be better. This API would be used to calculate a score based on the popularity/hype of a certain product.
