Java Web Application Development from Novice to Professional

My question is this:

I am a novice java programmer, I have finished many tutorials that teaches the basics and fundamentals of java programming.

I have reached the point II can make a chess game in java (it isn't much I know).

What I am looking for is a book/video/tutorial/anything that can teach me the basics and then build up to more advanced subjects on how to make Java Web Applications.

I tried reading "Professional Java® for Web Applications" by Nicholas S. Williams but even that seems a bit too heavy and I got lost.

Am I addressing my issue correctly? Or should I keep reading the same book?
