image optimisation on the front end in react app

Lighthouse audit of the web app shows that an opportunity to save time is "Properly size images" and it reads "Serve images that are appropriately-sized to save cellular data and improve load time". I read few posts related to this and all i could figure out was that the api needs to serve smaller images etc . Can we not do anything in the react end to make sure that the issue of properly size images can be ressolved .

I have a potential saving of around 1.16 seconds in this.
