How to fix a web application querying internal servers using a Public IP address

I have a web application installed on the web server. It is accessible via the internet but some functionality need to query another internal server to acquire data. It is querying another internal server using the public IP address of the web server,instead of using an internal IP address. How can i fix this? please help.
