Is there an existing free API/service I could you to get video metadata?

So I have a intranet home server(hosted on my PC using XAMPP. One component of it is a media library/server that will have all the videos I have stored locally, specifically series and movies. The media is accessed through a web based interface/ through a Internet browser. I want to be able to get the metadata about the series or movie and use that to flesh out my media server. So I want information like genres, release date, language, etc. Getting the metadata will be on a per new file basis. New video file>get meta data>store>transform>utilize
