Web development coverage

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this kind of question.

I'm planning on shifting in web development and I need to learn it fast. I don't intend to be expert immediately but I need enough info/knowledge so I can produce even a simple website for clients.

-I need the common process used from start to end of developing a web project. -the usual tools used -where to always look first regarding settings/setup/avoiding common error. -the programming languages(I know they are many but I need just the essentials)

Again, I just need to develop simple website for clients that needs website with a little database feature for their data.

For now, I'll start with wordpress. I'm begging for your wisdom on web development. I really need to learn it fast.

And also, please make your answer and explanation simple so I, along with other newbies like me, can understand it fast. :D
