To make simple products variable without making it variable products

Does anyone know about the possibilities within Woocommerce to achieve what we want to achieve, wether someone knows of a way that’s build into Woocommerce, or via an external plugin, paid or free?

What we want to achieve is to use simple products as variations, I know that can sound confusing. And you may ask why not just use variable products? But variable products have quite a few limitations that we want to avoid.

The best example of what we want to achieve can be found here: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/samsung-qe50q60t-4k-qled-tv/9300000005930962/ I’m sorry, the site is in Dutch, but that shouldn’t hinder here, what I am trying to show is that when you use the dropdown menu to change the size of the TV. The url changes too, indicating that in fact this tv isn’t a variable product. But actually just a simple product with a link to other simple products of the same tv, just in different sizes.

This is exactly what we are trying to achieve, but couldn’t find a way to do in Woocommerce. I have no insight in the backend of this website, but I can only assume this is done by “Grouping” the products together to allow them to link together. And most importantly have it be automated. Of course something like this would be possible by hand, but that is simply not an option.

Lastly something we are looking for in this regard is to be able to hide some products from the “group”, for example say there is a dress in 2 colors and 3 sizes. They’re all different products as with the tv discussed before, but we obviously don’t want to have every single variation show up in the shop.

We just want 2 different variations to show up, in this case the 2 colors. Then inside the product you can still change color should you want to. However through the filters you should also be able to set the size, let’s say you filter on only size 2, and you click on a product with let’s say color 1. It should open the page of the product with color 1 and size 2 pre selected for you, but should also still allow you to change both.

I know it can sound complicated, but look at a lot of major websites, and you’ll see this is how they operate. If anyone knows of a way to achieve this in Woocommerce we’d love to know.
