is learning html first the best route in developing my own web page

I want to eventually start my own web page. So my question is starting off with learning html(I found it easy to pick up back in high school), is it a good starting route in getting started in developing web pages, also is there other languages that is needed to know in order to put up a web page? If so please leave a list and a list of good beginners book to start off with or best route in beginning to learn how to put up pages.
