Building an ASP.Net Social Network [on hold]

I'm starting out building a social network web app. I am new in ASP.Net but I thought using it due to my knowledge in C# which may be very helpful to me.

I need some basic guidance and resources from how to get the relevant information, APIs, components or source code examples.
