From a web developer's perspective, what are the shortcomings of javascript? [on hold]

In the history of web development, integration evolved from the shortcomings of java and flash toward a language that can share space with HTML and a means that is not limited by the limitations of using a device-dependent plugin.

Javascript is popular now, but in turn, what are its limitations and are these limitations a result of the structure of javascript, or are they the result of what you perceive as a deficiency in html/html5?
