Basic web app + database

I've been given a challenge:

Using the tools, languages, and storage of your choice, create a simple todo web application. The application should allow a user to:

· Create a task item

· Edit a task item

· Check off the task item

· Remove the task item

. Store tasks in a database

I've done some frontend stuff before (at an internship), but setting this up on my own is new to me. I've spent the past hour or two trying to find a good, working tutorial (some tutorials I've gotten through half way only to get some obscure, un-googlable error), and I'm really at a loss. What should I do?
