How do i give a random number to a visitor on my website and ensures that he keeps this number until the session ends [closed]

I am doing a project using php, js, etc.. I have to ensure that any visitor on my website gets a number which will be maintained until the session ends. I tried using the rand () function but it will keep generating new numbers. Please help me
