Ruby websocket echo to Tomcat 8.5

I have set up a Tomcat 8.5 locally on my computer and it works fine, i can get into the Tomcat host manager. I am new to these things and I am wondering how could i make a ruby file that connects to my Tomcat sends a simple string message and gets an echo back? Could somebody tell me how this would be done or point me in the right direction so I can learn this?
