Is it possible to initialize a conversation thread on behalf of the logged in user to another user(s) using Facebook's APIs?

I built a website in which students can post their projects and other students can look at the description, go the github page and see who is working on that project.

I wanted to have a message button that if clicked would open in a new tab a facebook messenger page where a new thread would be initialized on behalf of the logged in user (I have the access token) addressed to the people who own the project (Also registered with my app so I have their ids).

This way it becomes very convenient for the user to start a conversation with the team.

I was wondering if this is even possible and allowed by Facebook?
