What's the next step in design? [on hold]

For about a year I'm creating websites - based on some template (mostly) from ThemeForest and WordPress CMS. But more and more, I feel, that I need more than just template. I mean, more and more websites starts to look the same and nothing unique.

Plus, that work process is much more effective than half a year, or even three months ago, but I want to go to the next - premium - level and start creating unique designs.

If you were in my position and once started be unhappy with choice of themes and templates (I work on Bootstrap and little bit SemanticUI frameworks), what's the next step? Start creating design from scratch? Something else? Any tips or recommendations (including what to read about web design).

P.S. I don't have problems with programming, CMS integration and functional things, but with web design I don't think of something new and unique. That's where the problem is.
